Talking Remember When for PvE

Remember the good old times in pve? I do, boy were they good. I remember when a dorks run was 8k+. I remember when random people grouped up to do quests. I remember AB being the fun new thing. I remember trying to tank as an assassin on the first open beta to only learn that you can't. I remember FDS being EPIC. What things do you guys remember? let's get this thread rolling! (I checked search for a thread like this got nothing so I made one)

My first trip to Ascalon from Lion's Arch during Beta. We started in LA on one of the beta games but could walk back to Ascalon. Hours spent with next to no skills, coordinating with other people to sacrifice themselves just so that we could get to the next area and not have another party wipe. Being absolutely in awe of how BIG Guild Wars was.

When the game went live, again being in awe of how BIG Guild Wars was as we had seen only a small part in Beta.

THK and working out the two monk defense. One at each gate with a warrior, a ranger and an ele. I was told flat out that it would never work. The total surprise when everyone in the party finally finished THK for the first time. Seeing that become the standard team build for THK was gratifying.

Grouping up with other people randomly to do missions/quests was the best [;

Agree with Mechanko. I loved being able to go anywhere and having outposts filled with people looking to do quests, missions, anything really. I liked how everyone was in the same boat still trying to figure out how to do things on their own and needing the help of others, not heroes.

Working through every mission and going through each area was a fun experience since it was all so new, different and very challenging especially THK and Iron Mines with the whole infusion thing.

I remember factions being a ton of fun too. There were a lot of unique areas.

I also remember all the gold drops being non-inscribable and therefore getting rare stuff was really awesome. I had so much fun farming dragon moss' for gold gothic swords, dual gothic axes, gothic shields, etc. If only I had saved all those rares from 2006 haha. I spent a lot of hours just farming random areas for golds because it was a lot more rewarding to me. I think I logged around 1900 hours of playing time in the 1st 2 or 3 years and only 80 hours the last 3 or 4 lol.

when THK was just THAT hard to complete

ToPK being worth doing, as was Sorrows

as above, being amazed by how big it was - initially thinking the pre-sear area was the entire game map.

I remember raging incredibly hard when the sundering mod wasn't salvaged off weapons. Altheas Ashes.
No inscribable weapons.
EVERY outpost/mission being occupied with people looking for groups.
Ascalon arena
The insane amount of people after mini's on the first anniversary
SF greens selling for 100k+

Only one thing that was good back then was Sorrow Furnace being profitable and UW Solo farm with smiter and 10 ectos per 15 min run . Other things are much better now or was not so long ago .

I remember when people called Guild Wars a PvP game, said "gz" or similar for purples/skill points, monk strikes, that neat gold chest event in Raisu Palace, non-stop conflicts with in groups mesmers, Jade Wind Orbs with people willing to buy a ton of them from each other, groupings for quests, the coming of Dhuum, and how hard it was sometimes.

When I first fought my way to Majesty's Rest wearing sub-max armor owning only Prophecies.
..still have the screenshot of Rotscale's entourage, and my character looking up at it like "Aw hell nah!"

When I couldn't for the life of me get through The Wilds (again, just Proph, henchies only, not LV20 yet), and a random PuG noticed I'd zoned in and out of the outpost like four times and asked "Having trouble?"
...one of my few good player interaction experiences outside of trading.

When I discovered my first solo farming build in Anvil Rock using Avatar of Balthasar and the original Eternal Aura.

Exploring Prophecies just for the heck of it, seeing all the little nooks and crannies that really don't get you anything story-wise, but make you feel cool when you find them.
Prime examples are all the god and goddess statues spread around the wilderness.

First time capping Feast of Corruption.
Holy crap that was a pain!
Yay tomes.

When I spent the first four years of play swearing by all that is holy that I would NEVER join a guild...

Yep, thinking Pre-Sear was "it" , eventually making it to Thunder Head keep and starting a new monk because I thought I would never ever beat that mission with my ranger; then the monks went on strike.

I remember that first time I finally reached Hell's Precipice as the cinematic after the 3 globes were popped started.... I had an error 7. I almost cried. I was so pissed.

I remember when they first nerfed the 55 monk solo build. The " there's a new build" message started. Temple of ages was packed with monks refusing to get the new update. We stayed there for hours just QQing...

Sorrow's Furnace: the best game update EVER.

Good times all around.

My first time in UW trapping, with my ranger...
It they simply kept expanding tyria, not adding heroes.... the game would be way better nowadays

Classic w/mo-flavour Drok runs. They were never hard to do really - just learn the routine and pay attention to radar, but I always got a sense of pride whenever completing it.

I remember having to go to droks to get bloodstained boots before they added insignias to the game.

Reaching Piken Square for the first time. It was somehow special, a place where all the hard quests started.

* Doing secondary profession quests in the desert, and actually using abilities from a second profession
* Before unlocked skills became available to every trainer. When skills were available from set trainers and Ember Light Camp had all skills.
* Wreckages, Barrels and chests around the world containing loot such as Swamp Clubs, Crystalline Swords and Dwarven Axes
* Desert Griffons
* Getting to Yak's Bend the first time
* Dealing Holy Damage to undead for the very first time and packing Judge's Insight on a physical every time when traveling in Kryta
* Always using the back route in Ring Of Fire as breaking through the gate was nigh impossible
* Conventina the Matron and her armor value of 200. Being a clueless elementalist I took well over 10 minutes to kill her the first time.
* On subsequent runs in the Ring of Fire missions I went to shower/groceryshopping when / if Conventina had spawned, little did I know you didn't always have to kill her. Sigh
* Last Day Dawns pugs
* Rajazan's Fervor selling for 80-100k, good times.
* Doing "GvE" with a bunch of PvP players. Hi Souma. ;D

And everything else.

Even as short as 3 years ago people were still wanting to group, AB was where it was happening and people getting yelled at for not have the "right" build required for pvp. Even us noobs at the time. Seeing more people on in the guild. People looking to do dungeons instead of speedygonzalez way. People asking for help wtih that quest that requires you to throw kegs at the huge worm. and getting a buttload of party invites. Ah the good ol' days.
